No Spiritual Surrender

As this Holy Week proceeds to Easter Sunday, people of the Christian persuasion make their plans for church services, Easter egg hunts, and ham dinners. I will be working a day shift at a local hospital. What do these activities have to do with the meaning and purpose of this sacred time?
How are we living in to the message of self-transcendence personified in the image of a crucified man?
A quandary, for sure. Theology is full of them.
Here’s a way to think about the sacrifice and resurrection witnessed and reflected upon during this holy week: this is a time for no spiritual surrender.
-Let us not submit to the corruption, greed, violence, and domination of the human condition.
-Let us not give in to ego and fear.
-Let us be brave.
-Let us embody goodness, kindness, wisdom, and love.
-Let us call out inequity and hold each other accountable when we manipulate and abuse others.
-If we need to control anything, let it be ourselves when we feel like lashing out in frustration.
-If we must be the masters of anything, let it be our own grief.
No spiritual surrender now. This work starts within.
